With its offense seemingly in midseason form, the Ice Cold Beer squad rallied for a 8-5 win over the Walla Walla Walla Wallas in the season`s opening week. Behind stellar pitching performances from the likes of Ricky Nolasco, Ubaldo Jimenez, Zack Greinke, Adam Wainwright and Matt Cain, the Wallas team posted a microscopic 2.38 ERA with 5 wins, and 3 saves from sole closer Jonathan Broxton. After the season`s first few games, the Wallas seemed poised to cruise to victory to start off their season.
But Saturday night the Ice Cold squad stormed back with an 11 run, 5 HR, 15 RBI performance to slingshot them ahead for good. Alfonso Soriano contributed mightily the first week by belting four homers and swiping two bags. Chipper Jones picked up where he left off last season by hitting at a .400 clip, and who says guys can`t hit past the age of 35? Raul Ibanez belted two home runs and Jermaine Dye added another. But the show was stolen by none other than Kevin Youkilis. Simply nothing can compare to Youk`s numbers for the week - .522 AVG, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 17 TB, 1 SB. Yooooouuuuk, the Ice Cold Nation thanks you.

I mean, not one of these guys will even be top 150 player for a few years (if at all). I think if we veto this trade it`ll bring us into a league with stern trading rules, which isn`t fun or good for the league. I think we should stick to the unspoken veto rules of fantasy: veto trades that look like an offensive lineman and a pre-schooler on a see-saw. Although that rule is somewhat nebulous, I think anyone with a couple years of fantasy experience knows that rule. This is a great league. This is the best league out of the 5 KFL leagues I`m in by a very large margin. For my most recent move I`ve shifted into `win now` mode. Sandoval and Zobrist both have very comparable numbers to Hanley and Mauer. With the upgrade of Kemp in the outfield and adding Longoria to my team it helps me out this year and that is my goal. Does it hurt me going forward Maybe. I plan on keeping Zobrist and taking a chance that he is not having a carer year. He`s put up some good numbers in limited playing time in the past. Sandoval looks to be a very good player. One could argue that if Mauer had not developed the power this year that Sandoval would be the better of the two. He`s also eligible for catcher next year too. Kemp is young and a top ten outfielder. I think it was a solid trade for both sides. <br />

The logic for my complaint is this.On your team I see (just my opinion no want to cause offense) the following guys a keepers- <br />
Reynolds, LaPorta, Hill, Ramirez, Rios, Sizemore, Pence, Rasmus, Heyward, Hamels, Cain and Billingsley. That`s 12 guys. We keep 14 I think. The last two spots could be filled by any three of Buchholz, Kazmir or Scherzer. All three have risk. Now with the trade of Rasmus and Scherzer your down 2 potential keepers. Maybe Cabrera turns into a solid fantasy player. I just don`t see much upside to him. <br />

No threat felt here. It`s just when you couple a move that makes me scratch my head with the lineup issue something just didn`t add up for me. If I had been Mauer 4 MVP (It may happen this year) I would have been screaming about it simply because he is fighting for a playoff spot. A good showing by you against Baby Carrots and a win for him against Ice Cold Beer and he could move into 4th place. <br />

After reading through this thread, I`m confident in saying I don`t have a problem with this deal any longer. I feel the statement that held the most substance through everything was what you said, Mike - we all view players differently. Exactly. For instance, Team A could be loaded with tons of strikeout hitters (i.e., Howard, Reynolds, Thome, etc.) and may be looking for a high power guy. If one can already assume a loss is forthcoming in the strikeout category, why not add a guy who gives you the power numbers you`re looking for Conversely, another owner could look at said player and view him far differently because of the high strikeout totals... completely understood and agreed, Mike. And as always, great numbers breakdown, Rob Neyer... err, Dave.<br />

But seriously, just to more or less put a stamp on where my head was at through all this... what caught my eye regarding the trade was the fact U.S.S. DEFIANT`s lineup had not been set for two consecutive weeks and that, coupled with a string losses the previous weeks, it appeared as though we may have an owner who was intentionally losing games in an effort to acquire a better draft pick for next season. And obviously and thankfully, that was not the case whatsoever.<br />

I simply did not want to see the integrity of our league come into question. I think we`ve got a great core of owners in this league (Ringers owner - still with us) and I don`t know about ya`ll, but the increased activity we`ve had with trades and waiver pick-ups this season has really added to my enjoyment of the league. I know many of us have become good friends even outside talking about the league itself, and I would like to see us create a core group of players who enjoy participating in the league year-round, year after year.<br />

When I saw two straight weeks of an incomplete lineup, I raised an eyebrow and Mike, I appreciate you letting us know about the situation and we got everything resolved. I would never want to win or lose in any format under questionable circumstances and I know we had an issue earlier this season when Diamond Dawgs` team wasn`t being regularly updated (remember Aramis Ramirez in the starting lineup for weeks and weeks and he was DL`ed), so I`m glad to see we`ve got everything in good standing.<br />

Once again, I have zero problem with the Cabrera for Scherzer/Rasmus deal and hereby waive any protest toward its completion.<br />

I don`t have a problem in trading prospects for established guys (especially if the team getting the veterans is making a playoff push), but this trade does not fit that mold at all. I simply cannot see how the Diamond Dawgs team is making his team any better by trading one of the best starting pitchers in the game and two all-star caliber middle infielders for four unproven prospects, only two of whom have any major league experience.<br />

You yourself said you wouldn`t Scherzer due to health concerns (neither would I) and Rasmus can`t hit left handed pitching so I turned them around for a guy who has been steady this year and last in Cabrerra.<br />

Why did you essentially trade Ramirez the Best SS in the league and Mauer the best catcher in the league plus two what I see as throw in`s for slumping Longoria, throw in Zobrist, Matt Kemp and a 3B who just happens to qualify at Catcher <br />
